At the end of June, the report evaluating Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 was published on the website of the European Commission. This legal act has been in force since 1 January 2013 and defines a new legal framework for the interface between the Commission and the (privately managed) European standardisation system for the provision of harmonised standards in support of EU policies and legislation.
The evaluation of the Regulation was intended to provide a sound analysis of its current effectiveness, which will feed into the subsequent initiative to revise the legal act. We have summarised the two publications in this short information.

With the publication of its report evaluating the Standardisation Regulation, the EU Commission has also published a ‘Call for evidence for an impact assessment’ of the legal act. Feedback on the development and drafting of a new legal act can be submitted until 21 July 2025.
The revision of the Standardisation Regulation aims to address the shortcomings identified in the evaluation of the Regulation. In addition, it aims to accelerate the development of systemic standards related to resilience and the green and digital transitions in the EU.
Adoption by the Commission is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. Details and further information on the initiative can be found on the EU Commission website.
